Quito City Tour

Visiting Quito´s Historical Center is visiting the heart of Ecuador. The most important political and social events take place here. It is not only important in the present, in the past it was the capital of the northern Inca Empire; therefore, there are many Inca and pre-Inca vestiges in its surroundings.

 

It was declared Humanity’s First Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO due to its architectural beauty that covers a surface of 375,2 hectares. It is the biggest and best preserved historical center of Latin America.

 

Quito City Tour covers the most emblematic and beautiful places of the downtown area. The tour includes a narration about Inca history, the Spanish conquest, architecture and art.  You will visit churches, museums, plazas, viewpoints and the most famous streets known for their beauty and history.

 

Itinerary:

09h30 Itchimbía: one of the best viewpoints in Quito. In the past it was a sacred place for the Inca and a military base for the Spaniards. A panoramic view of the city of Quito is offered from here.  We begin the tour in this place to have a clear view of what we are going to observe.

 

10h00 Plaza Grande: the most important plaza, surrounded by the four powers of the state (the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop Palace and the Municipal Palace). This plaza is also called the heart of Ecuador.

 

11h00 La Ronda Street: one of the oldest traditional streets in the city of Quito. It was the home of poets and painters in the decade of the thirties. Nowadays it is a very picturesque trade street.

 

12h00 San Francisco de Quito Church: the biggest church in Ecuador. It has an incredible museum of colonial art.

 

12h30 Jesus’ Company Church: the most representative church of Baroque art in South America. It is covered with gold foil from beginning to the end; entering this church will most likely still a sight from you.

 

13h30 El Panecillo: viewpoint where the whole Historical Center of Quito can be observed. The tourist can observe the places already visited from another perspective.

Quito City Tour / Middle of the World

First we will make a city tour to the Historical Center of Quito where you will discover the most emblematic places of this city.

 

After the city tour, we go to Middle of the World City where you will be able to photograph yourself with the famous monument and to go from one hemisphere to another in an instant.

 

Then we will visit the Intiñán Museum, an old indigenous temple where the exact point of the middle of the world was marked even before the Spanish conquest.  Many fun activities like amusing tests wich proof that this is real center of the planet can be done.  Concluding this, we will return to Quito.

Quito City Tour and Cable Car

 

First we will take a city tour to the Quito´s old downtown where you will discover the most emblematic and historical places of this city.

 

Concluding the visit to the Historical Center, we will enjoy some Ecuadorian gastronomy and go to the Cable car located at the Pichincha volcano. Here we will ascend from 2904 to 4100 meters above sea level.

Otavalo

On the route to Otavalo you will be able to appreciate the Andean mountain ranges, its volcanoes, lakes and fertile lands. This indigenous city and community will astonish you when arriving to the scheduled destination.

 

In Otavalo you will have the opportunity to visit and shop in the biggest indigenous market of South America, La Plaza de los Ponchos (The Ponchos Plaza). We will travel its narrow streets, where the indigenous otavaleños artisans sell their colorful textile, varied crafts, musical instruments, antiques, animals, medicinal plants, etc.

 

The Otavalo indigenous are very friendly people. In one of their shops you will have the opportunity to learn how a typical musical instrument of the Andean America is made.

 

In this trip you will visit a sacred cascade for the natives, you will taste Ecuadorian gastronomy, and you will visit a famous town kwon for its leather textiles and woodcrafts. To conclude you will admire a demonstration of different birds flying in an animal conservation park.

Mindo

Mindo is a paradise for nature lovers.  It is considered as one of the richest areas in biodiversity of Latin America.  There are more than 500 species of birds, 18 species of butterflies and an enormous quantity of insects, amphibians and plants.  It is surrounded by thick vegetation that is crossed by several rivers and waterfalls.

 

We begin this trip by observing from a viewpoint the crater of an active volcano called Pululahua, one of the few active volcanos whose crater is actually inhabited.  We will then follow our destination and to observe how nature changes drastically from one point to another within a few kilometers distance. A dense vegetation of cloudy forest begins to cover the hills around the road. Here is where we realize that we are coming closer to our destination, mystical Mindo.

 

Once in Mindo we will take a walk through its forests observing unique flora and fauna. For those who want a refreshing bath we will stop at a beautiful warterfall. We will taste Ecuadorian gastronomy and then we will visit the butterfly museum of Mindo.

Papallacta

 

Papallacta is espectacular. Taking a bath in volcanic thermal waters surrounded by fog, contemplating a view of snowy mountains , accompanied by a delicious meal and good company are things that make people easily fall in love with this place.

 

This incredible place is located in the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve, one of the biggest reserves in Ecuador. We will visit this reserve before going to the Spa of hot springs, where we will admire and we will learn about the Andean moor.
